Hartley Wintney plan for the future
30 January 2009
Hartley Wintney F.C. has announced that, as part of the long term planning for the Football Club, they are viewing the possibility of starting a Youth team. Manager Pete Gray said, "We have met with the Chairman and he is all for a Youth development programme, which we feel is necessary to take the Club forward".
He added, "I've asked John Condon to oversee the set up and, with the Club's support, he will start the process".
Club Chairman, Luke Mullen said, "We had a Youth team a couple of Seasons ago, but it didn't work out for us. However, I am happy to look at the possibility of starting again, if the circumstances are right".
Central to that is the appointing of a Youth Team Manager to take the set up forward and work with the current coaching staff to progress players through the Youth Team into the Reserves and onto the First Team. Gray said," We need the right person, preferably with contacts at local Schools and Colleges, who can secure a steady stream of Players through the ranks and has a real interest in developing this programme. If we can secure the right person and get some sponsorship arranged, we will approach a league for membership". It is envisaged that the league in question will be the Allied Counties Youth Football League, with the Reserve team eventually moving to the Suburban league, if the plan comes together.

The Club would like to thank all the applicants who applied for the post and were encouraged by the quality of applicant.
Badshot Lea 3 Hartley 1
19th August 2008
A trip to Badshot Lea playing out of Farnborough should have been an enjoyable night. The Hartley massive turned up just before ko and found a few seats in the massive stand. Everything looked set, and with the pitch looking fantastic, probably the best pitch I've ever seen, we felt if Hartley couldn't play football out there then something was wrong.
Something was wrong!
Hartley found themselves 1 down after a drifting cross was turned into our own net on 8 mins. A minute later we should have been 2 down after sloppy defending, and it could have been 3 when the Badshot striker squandered a chance and struck the post. The lively Willsy picked up the ball close to our own half and danced round the Badshot defence, squaring the ball to Holman who banged the ball in from about 2 yards. 18 minutes and finally Hartley had shown some of the signs we had seen in the previous 3 games.
HT 2-1 down and Foggy wasn't happy with the burgers! Out of 10 his rating only gets a 2. Anyway, back to the game.
Hartley started the second half brightly, with Willsy still looking our best chance to score. However on 51 Blakey went on a jinxing run and made the keeper pull out a blinding save. The ball kindly fell to Willow who should have made it 2-2. That was our last chance of the game and everything was going Badshot's way. I won't comment on how bad 2 of the 3 officials were, suffice to say the crowd were not happy!
On 67 Mindy made a fantastic save to keep us in the game but it was not to be. Their 3rd goal killed the game off and they had a handful of chances to inflict further damage. Hartley were second to the ball all night and really looked tired.
My MOM went to Mindy, a couple of great saves to reduce our embarrassment. If we play like that again then better teams will really embarrass us, let's turn it round and show what we can do at home on Saturday against Bedfont.
Goal summary: 17 min - Scott Holman (6/10)
A well delivered cross from James Wills was converted by Scott Holman. A textbook finish with the right foot from close range.
Hartley 3 Cove 1
FA Cup Extra Prelim Round
16th August 2008
A blistering start saw Hartley 3 up in 15 mins. A mistake by Hunt in the Cove goal let in Nick McMahon for the opener. Williams converted an Orgar cross and Morris converted a Sullivan free kick. Cove offered very little in attack but when they did threaten Mindy showed a safe pair of hands. Sullivan showed his class, dictating the midfield, and Hunt, Burgess and Morris were strong at the back.
I don't know what was said at half time but we just didn't show up for the second half. Cove were the more determined and dominated for long periods without creating too much. A good result to build on. Must concentrate and compete for the full 90 mins.
Goal summary: 3 min - Nick McMahon (6/10)
A flurry of activity in the area led to an opposition error. Nick McMahon took advantage by scoring a clinical right footed goal from 18 yards out.
15 min - Matthew Williams (7/10)
A well delivered cross from Stewart Orgar was converted by Matthew Williams. A great finish with the head from close range.
18 min - Matthew Morris (7/10)
Andy Sullivan supplied the cross, and Matthew Morris found the net from six yards out with a speculative headed goal.
Hartley 1 Bedfont Green 2
12 August 2008
Started slowly against a neat passing BG side. Took the lead when a long clearance from Peters found James Wills who took on the defender and sent over the perfect cross for Sullivan to volley home. Mindy made a great save from a brilliantly hit free kick to keep BG out. BG had a lot of possesion but it was HW who went in 1-0 up at HT.
From the start of the second half BG stepped up the pace, kept posession, making HW chase down every ball. Mindy in goal kept HW in the game with some great saves. BG equalised when a long ball over the top caught out the HW defence and the foward slotted home. Should have taken the lead when James Wills was brought down in the box. Holman's poorly taken penalty was saved by the keeper, who also blocked two follow up efforts. BG began to take control and HW were defending very deep.
With 8 mins to go, BG deservedly took the lead for all their second half pressure. From a corner, a shot was blocked by Mindy but a forward followed up to score. Blake never stopped running and gets the mom.
BG are one of the favouries to go up. They looked fitter and looked comfortable on the ball. We must improve and take points from our home matches.
Goal summary: 10 min - Andy Sullivan (9/10)
James Wills supplied the corner, and Andy Sullivan found the net from just inside the box with a spectacular right footed volley.
RPV 2 Hartley 3
9 August 2008
Getting to RPV on Saturday was awful. Pouring rain, traffic jams on the M3 and M25. Most of the players arrived after 2pm. Not good preparation.
Williams was booked in the 5th minute and we went 1-0 down after 7 mins. RPV has a great chance to make in 2 after 10 mins but the player shot well wide. HW then had two great one on one chances, with both Williams and Croxford missing them both. Just before the break, Williams was brought down and Robbo curled home the free kick, even though it got a slight deflection he will claim it! Wills made it 2-0 with a neat goal after the keeper failed to hold on to the ball after a challenge from Croxford. Croxford scored a fine third goal to put HW 3-1 up. Nick came on for Williams, Peters for Robbo and French for Sullivan.
RPV pulled a goal back with 19 mins to go but HW held out for a deserved 3 points. Mindy played well in goal and deserves a mention. Will need to up our game against a strong Bedfont Green side next Tuesday, but a great start to the season.
Goal summary: 35 min - Danny Roberts (7/10)
A fine free-kick by Danny Roberts, smashed home with the left foot. The free kick was won after good work from Matthew Williams.
43 min - James Wills (7/10)
A ball from Alex Croxford led to an opposition error. James Wills made no mistake with a great left footed finish from close range.
52 min - Alex Croxford (7/10)
Converted from just inside the box with the right foot, it was a well-finished individual goal which Alex Croxford won't forget!
SEASON 2007-2008
CB Hounslow 0 Hartley 1
17th April 2008
Hartley's last game of the season was well supported by the Hartley massive. Around 20 supporters made the trip down the M4 and bolstered CB's lowly support.
Hartley started well and soon took the bull by the horns. Some of the attacking footy in the early stages of the game was probably some of the best I'd seen Hartley play in months. Then on 15 minutes, Chris Haddow showed what he can do under pressure and cooly pulled the ball back from the touchline with the perfect drag-back. The following cross was perfect for Dorks, who rose to bang the ball in the back of the net with the perfect header, giving the CB keeper no chance.
At once the game seemed to change. Hartley were happy to sit back and let CB attack. A few good chances came our way to wrap up the game, but it was CB who did most of the pressing and were unlucky not to get the equalizer. In added on time CB had the ball in the back of the net but the lino had flagged for an offside and it wasn't to be. Shame that we had so much riding on the game, otherwise I would have been quite happy to give them a share of the points.
Well done to Hartley for sticking to their task. My MOM went to Ben for a promotion winning performance.
Farleigh Rovers 0 Hartley 3
12th April 2008
The Hartley Massive were not put off by the long trip to Farleigh. Most cars arrived with time to sample the beer, pies and hospitality. I can report that all 3 were very good!
The game took a while to get going, but with Farleigh applying most of the pressure, Hartley looked good on the break and should of had a couple of goals. Dorks and Hadds had had almost open goal chances and were guilty of poor finishing. Then on 27 Wills broke down the left and crossed the ball into the 6. The Farleigh keeper seemed to flap and Dorks banged the ball in from about 2 yards. 34 mins and Hartley were awarded a free kick. Hadds knocked the ball to Dorks and he walloped the ball into the top left corner. Hold on, the ref re-ordered the free kick due to only what can be described as a Farleigh infringement...oh well. This time Hadds took the free kick and dispatched it low to the keeper's right. 2-0 up.
Second half and Hartley sat back and soaked up the pressure. On 88 Dorks had his shirt pulled and fell over the keeper! Penalty given. It's quite hard to explain what happened next but I will try. The Farleigh keeper appeared to be putting Dorks off for the spot-kick by walking over to his post just before the kick was taken, the ref blew and Dorks riffled the ball into the top of the net. 3-0. The Farleigh players complained but the goal stood. Later I found out that the goalie was not doing a Groebelar but had just gone to dry his gloves on his towel and wasn't ready for the spot kick!
Anyway, enough of the game - would just like to say thanks to all those involved at Farleigh for the lovely hospitality they afforded us. Thank you very much from the Hartley Massive.
MOM went to Pissy - solid for 90'
Chobham 0 Hartley 1
5th April 2008
This was a re-arranged fixture after it was originally called off due to flooding. With no game and a free Saturday, 5 first teamers had booked a trip to Amsterdam. With three games remaining, all cup finals, the manager must have been pulling his hair out!
Myself and Foggy turned up early to admire their facilities and take a few photos, as I'll be creating a page for each team in the league. Hopefully we won't be going back there next season and should be playing teams in the prem. A new feature will be Foggy giving a burger rating at each club, this has come from Chobham providing the best Footy burger he's ever had. Anyway, to the game...
Hartley started off brightly, with Nick and Blakey doing lots of running and creating a few chances, one of which Blakey should have squared the ball back to any one of Hartley's five midfielders who were waiting for the ball. Instead it was blasted over and a chance for the opening goal went missing.
On a short bobbly pitch, Hartley found it difficult to play their passing game and the long ball always ended up in the keeper's arms. Chobham threatened our goal on a few occasions, once putting the ball in the back of the net with a glorious strike, but the ball was pulled back for an infringement. After 20 minutes, Blakey pulled up with a hamstring pull and will be out for the rest of the season.
Second half and it was much of the same, lots of midfield action which kept the hard working Shipman on his toes and captain Peters never stopped battling. On 68 minutes, Nick squared the ball to Joe Lennon who duly despatched from 18 yards. One nil to Hartley and that proved to be enough.
My MOM went to Jimmy Moran on his virgin first team appearance. A rock at the back who won everything in the air. Well done to the Hartley Massive for turning up and supporting their team.
Hartley 5 Coulsdon 1
29 Mar 2008
Wet and windy conditions made it difficult to control the ball. Dorks put Nick through to open the scoring and Nick returned the compliment just before half time. James Wills volleyed in the third and Blake added the fourth after being put through by Haddow. Haddow also crossed for Dorks to grab the 5th.
Could and should have had a few more. Done what was needed.
Frimley 0 Hartley 1
24 Mar 2008
On a cow field of a pitch with more sand than at Brighton, Hartley started brightly and scored within three minutes. For the rest of the game Frimley pushed for the equalizer, but thanks to some resolute defending and some great saves from Mindy we kept a clean sheet. Many chances fell to Dorks who should have wrapped the game up.
On a day when Westfield spanked Knaphill 5-0, Hartley were happy with 3 points but are now down 3 on their goal difference. Up next Coulsdon and we need a few goals.
Good to see the Hartley massive supporting their team.
Come on the Row!
Hartley 2 Crescent Rovers 0
22 Mar 2008
In wintry conditions, neat football was out of the question. A scrappy lst half ended 0-0. HW started the second half with a positive attitude and deserved the 2-0 victory. With better finishing it could and should have been more. With goal difference so close with Westfield it could prove costly.
Kev Vallance prodded home after an Anderson free kick was knocked on by Hunt. The second came from another free kick, this time Dorkin crossed and Blake was on hand to flick the ball into the back of the Crescent net. 3 much needed points.
Hartley 2 Sheerwater 2
8 Mar 2008
Probably one of the worst performances I've seen all season. Hartley didn't start playing football until about the 70th minute. Only then did they look like a team second placed in the league. Hartley were undone early in the first half after a poor mistake by Pissy gifting their player a strike on goal, even then Muffs should have comfortably got to it.
Dorks equalized with a great left foot strike from 25 yards but Hartley didn't seem to get going. The second half and we went 2-1 up after some good battling from Blakey and a good finish from Willsy. A free kick earned Dorks a yellow and Sheerwater a share of the points. My MOM went to Blakey. The only player who could hold his head up. Hanworth and Westfield both drew, so all is not lost, however we missed a chance to put promotion back into our own hands. No game next week, which is just as well.
Neasden Foundation 0 Hartley 1
1 Mar 2008
Good to get back to winning ways. On a bumpy pitch it was difficult to play a passing game. HW lost Steadman after 7 mins and Tom Shipman proved an able replacement. The first half our was scrappy but HW started to take control before half time. A much better 2nd half and HW deserved the 1-0 win thanks to a goal from James Wills mid way through the second half. Muffat made some good saves to deny Neasden in the closing stages as Neasden pressed for the equaliser. MOM went to Muffs. With Hanworth drawing, Hartley are back in the chase for promotion.
South Park 1 Hartley 1
16 Feb 2008 2008
A poor game but on chances we should have won. Could have been three down inside the first 15 mins. Took the lead when Blake put Dorks through, who finished well with a shot into the corner. With 7 minutes left, bad defensive errors cost us dearly when South Park equalized. Robbo hit the woodwork twice and the keeper made a great save from a Robbo free kick which was destined for the top corner. MOM went to Chunk.
Hartley 0 Staines Lammas 0
12 Feb 2008 2008
One of the best 0-0 draws. Staines are a quality side and put us under a lot of pressure, but we defended as a team. With no Hunt, Burgess or Hampton it was to be Perks, Peters and Roberts at the back but Perks was injured in the pre-match warm up. Cobbett came in and along with Haddow kept Staines at bay. Robbo went off injured in the second half, leaving Kev Vallance to play alongside Lee Peters. Blakey covered every inch of the park and never stopped running. Dorks and James had few chances but were always on hand to help out the defence.
Staines were very disappointed at not winning but HW can take a lot of credit for a great team performance. MOM went to Lee Peters. The Season starts NOW.
Hartley 0 Hanworth Villa 2
09 Feb 2008 2008
For the 1st 20 mins we looked in control but when Hunty failed to clear and we went 1-0 down it was the same old story. We lacked confidence and another error by Robbo left us with too much to do, being 2-0 down at half time. Had a better 2nd half but lacked the killer touch which Dorks might have given us. Hanworth deserved their win and worked as a team, with their big no.5 dominating. Promotion seems a long way off after this performance, and there's another tough game with Staines Lammas on Tuesday evening.
Westfield 2 Hartley 0
02 Feb 2008 2008
We lost to a team who looked as if they wanted it more. Under pressure from the start. Had a good spell just before half time and pressed again at the end. Just not consistent enough, with too many players having an off day. Robbo and Wills were at fault for the 1st goal. The second came after Glenn Hunt went on a forward run, lost the ball, then a quick counter-attack by Westfield and it was 2-O.
Must do a lot better. No MOM this week.
Worcester Park 2 Hartley 3
26 Jan 2008
Lots of improvements at Worcester Park, both on and off the pitch. The playing surface was in good nick and, against anyone else, I feel Joe would have made more of an impact in the centre of the park. However, against a physical side I think the management got it right, playing both Lee and Kev in the middle. Dorks was on his game and both his first half efforts found the back of the net. One with a great header, out jumping the WP defender by a couple of feet! The other with a left foot curler from just outside the box. 2-0 at half time with the downhill slope to aid us in the second half and things were looking good.
A couple of defensive errors and WP were back in it. The final cross came from sub Tommy Shipman who crossed the ball into the box for Dorks, who missed the header and the ball fell kindly for Willsy to smash it into the back or the net. 3 good away points to a team who could go above us if they win all their games in hand. My MOM went to Dorks who was simply the best on the park.
Thank you to WP for the hospitality shown to our officials.
Hartley 1 Farnham 1
19 Jan 2008
As expected, a hard fought contest between these two local rivals. Hartley had a few clear cut chances in the first half, but it was Farnham who took the lead after a mistake in goal from Muffs.
Second half started brightly, and within minutes Haddow had found Dorks on the far post (video on You Tube). Hartley went searching for the winner, but when Ben was shown red the game could have ended with no points at all. Hartley hung on for the point, and could have nicked it in the end. Farnham looked like a lot stronger and more youthful team to when we beat them at their place and I'm sure they will take points off all the other teams around us. Staines and Hanworth both won, knocking us off top spot.
Feltham 1 Hartley 2
12 Jan 2008
On a day when most games were called off in the league due to weather, Hartley travelled to Feltham with three points needed.
The first goal came on 32 minutes with Nick and Willsy linking up on the left, Willsy crossed the ball into the Feltham 6 yard area and Joe Lennon got on the end of it. His head just beating the Feltham keeper to the ball and scoring his third of the season. The second goal came on 38 mins. A looping fee kick from Haddow found Pissy at the far post who lobbed the ball into the 6 yard area. Blakey had a chance to head the ball in the back of the net, but the ball fell kindly to Nick and he despatched the ball for his 5th of the season. Feltham scored a consolation goal late on after Ben had a run with the ball and found himself stranded upfield, leaving a one on one with Muffs.
The Feltham keeper made some good saves throughout the game but the crucial 3 points went to Hartley, who are more than happy to play the extra games and leave it all for the chasing teams to do. Some performances to mention were Parksy with his first game back in the first team. Still solid and always a threat in the air. Joe with his first game back after being away for Christmas. As the game went on, he controlled all the play. Haddow was quality on the right throughout the game but Kev won my MOM, non stop all over the park. A good win away from home after the previous 2-2 draw at the memorial ground. A good day all round with the Hartley committee confirming the erection of the new south stand to be built in the next two months.
Hartley 5 Knaphill 0
A solid first half performance, with the Knaphill keeper keeping them in the game. Second half and Knaphill started to put on the pressure. Hartley answered this with five goals in thirteen minutes, probably the best short period of attacking play I've seen by any club.
My MOM went to Ben Burgess for a solid performance throughout the game. A worthy mention to Nick and Dorks who destroyed the Knaphill defense, and apologies for not getting all the goals on video... I couldn't keep up with the goals hitting the back of the net. Well done guys, you put some smiles on the Hartley Massive.
The reserves also beat Knaphill, goals from Woody and Sam Shipman.
Tongham 0 Hartley 6
Hartley Back to winning ways with a crushing defeat of Tongham. Hartley had numerous chances to make double figures, but the three points were what the top of the table team required. MOM went to hat-trick hero Willsy. The reserves did slightly better beating Tongham reserves 11-0. Ricky Attridge scoring five. In other results, Hanworth and Staines both took three points but Westfield went down 2-1 at Frimley Green.
26.12 Hartley lose their unbeaten home run
Hartley 2 Frimley Green 4
Two goals from Vallance were not enough to hold on to Hartley's home run form. Just didn't seem to click today.
15.12 Ten man Hartley cruise to victory
Hartley 4 Warlingham 0
After Hunty was sent off for having his bollocks squeezed, Willsy and Dorks opened up the Warlingham defence to devastating effect. A disappointing away performance from Hartley at Warlingham was replaced with a table topping performance at home. That's seven clean sheets in the last eight games. MOM went to... same old Willsy taking the piss! Come on the Row!
01.12 Hartley 5 Merrow 0
A return to winning ways with a much better all-round performance. Hartley could have gone in 5 up at half time, with many missed chances and a missed penalty by Haddow. MOM went to Kev Vallance... first to the ball every time. With Hanworth drawing against Westfield, the Row are back on top.
24.11 Crescent 3 Hartley 2
Not much to say really. Conditions didn't help, however we still should have beaten this lowly side. No MOM this week
17.11 Hartley 2 Westfield 0
Another terrific team performance and to be honest we played them off the park and the scoreline didn't reflect the difference in the two sides. Vallance and Peters in midfield worked their socks off and the defence looked solid again. My MOM went to Willsy who took the piss out of the Westfield right back all game.
13.11 Farnham 0 Hartley 1
Well done guys for the win tonight. We have started to look like a team who want to play for each other. Great to see so many Hartley massive and the banter which went on with their bench. MOM went to Hunty
12.11 Knaphill 0 Hartley 4
A brilliant all round team performance against a Knaphill side who were unbeaten at home this season and who had already beaten us 4-1 in the cup in September. New signing James Wills opened the scoring on his debut and then won the penalty from which Chris Haddow increased the lead after the Knaphill keeper was sent off. Two late goals from Nick McMahon and Glen Hunt put the icing on the cake for an impressive victory. MOM went to Lee Peters.
Quality result from the Reserves beating top of the table Bedfont Green.
27.10 Hartley 0 Chobham 0
Should have killed off the game in the first ten minutes. We didn't and in the end it was a well contested game by two of the top sides in the league. My MOM went to Hunty, however Muffs in goal was a very close second. Let's hope the knock Stedders received isn't too bad as he had another sterling captain's performance. One thing I'd like to point out, there was a great atmosphere on the touchline, with our best home crowd of the season. Keep putting in performances like that week in week out and the premier league will be like that every game. Come on the Row!
27.10 Hartley 3 Farleigh Rovers 0
Great first half performance with lots of missed chances - could have cost us dearly but Muffs had only one save to make all game and no one complained at the final whistle. Goals from Haddow, Vallance and a wonder goal from Pickering kept the Row in second. My MOM went to Pickering, a great performance topped off with a great goal. Come on the Row!
20.10 Sheerwater 2 Hartley 5
Back to winning ways and up to 2nd. Good performance throughout. My MOM went to Steaders.
13.10 Coulsdon 2 Hartley 2
Lucky to get a point at lowly Coulsdon. MOM went to Muffs who kept us in the game.
09.10 Hartley Wintney 1 Brading Town 7
Hants Cup. Didn't get to see the game last night as I was at work. If anyone would like to send me a match report, that would be great; preferably not from a Brading supporter!
06.10 Hartley Wintney 2 Feltham 2
Two second half goals from Mullet boy were not enough as Feltham battled back to earn them a draw. One plus from today's game was the return of Chris Hampton who put in a steady MOM performance. Tough game on Tuesday in the Hants Cup home to Brading Town, let's hope we can bounce back from our poor display.
22.09 Hartley Wintney 0 Newport Pagnell Town 2
Hartley bowed out of the FA Vase with a whimper. A missed penalty from Blakey was our highlight in a very bad all-round performance. If we are going to concentrate on the league this season then it would be the only positive thing to come out of the game.
On a slightly happier note, Sheerwater went down 2-1 at home to Neasden.
15.09 Hartley Wintney 2 South Park 1
Goals from Blakey and Kev get us back on winning ways. A workman like performance. Can play better but it's the result which counts. 1-0 up with a Blake special but a goal mouth scramble led to South Park drawing level. In the past we would have gone on to lose the game but we took the game to South Park and Kev netted the winner. MOM went to Blakey.
11.09 Cup Defeat v Sandhurst
Hartley are out of the cup. With Dorks sent off after 40, we were always going to find it hard. I must say even though we lost we played well, kept to our passing game and often made Sandhurst look like the Div 1 side. We knew what to expect, with their long ball hoofing tactics, but still made silly mistakes at the back. My MOM went to Joe Lennon, non stop for 90. We need to get back to winning ways, and we need to do it Saturday v South Park.
01.09 Hartley go top
Hartley beat CB Hounslow 3-2 to go top of the league. Goals from Dorks, Mullet boy and an 'og' secured the win. MOM went to Kev Vallance, who showed the form of his old days.
27.08 Merrow 0 Hartley 4
The First team continued their run of good results with a 4 nil win at Merrow. The first half ended 1-0 after a penalty from Blakey, however with a little more composure in front of goal from the Bruce Forsythe look-a-like and we could have been four up by half time. The hard working McMahon was replaced with baldy man... now to be known as Mullet boy. Within minutes he had found the net and it was game over. Another from MB and a fourth from Joe gave us the away victory. My MOM went to Perks... didn't put a foot wrong all game.
